The Living room/ Family room

💜The Living Room/ Family room represents:

  •   Social Interaction: This is often where family and friends gather, representing relationships and community.

  •   Comfort and Relaxation: A space for unwinding, it symbolizes emotional safety and personal well-being.

I have a lot of memories in this room. Although most of my memories were made in the “family rooms” of other family members’ home, they were still memories made. Good and bad. This is the crux of my story because as they say “everything starts at home.” At home we had to deal with a smaller, more intimate family dynamic. My mom, siblings, and I had to navigate either witnessing domestic violence or endure abuse. During family gatherings (on my mom’s side of the family tree) or on the holidays, we had to navigate another family dynamic and hierarchy on a much larger scale. We also had to keep quiet about what went on at home.

Love and loss whether metaphorical or literal, has shaped the person I am today. I’ve learned to become a quiet observer while finding mediums to express my deeper emotions and release the turmoil of love, loss, betrayal, and etc.

I love to write poems. I used to write all the time when I was younger. Whenever I was sad and I need a “pick me up,” I would write little motivational poems to myself. They served as little “note to self” when I would look through my poetry journal.

This poem is called “The Mettle Heart.”
